NJ Transit kiosk helpline turned out to be phone sex number

April 24, 2014

A transit kiosk in New Jersey mistakenly advertised the telephone number for a sex hotline, instead of a customer service number, reports News 12 New Jersey.

A woman called the number advertised on a passenger information poster when the NJ Transit self-service kiosk swallowed her card. She was surprised to hear the message: "Welcome to America's hottest talk line. Ladies, to talk to interesting and exciting guys free, press one now."

The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, told News 12 New Jersey that she was astounded and shocked that a number listed for a government agency turned out to be X-rated.

A NJ Transit spokesperson told News 12 that the poster was outdated and should have come down in June 2008. She also said that the agency was checking its posters and removing any other old posters.

News 12 found that the same number was also advertised on websites belonging to the South Jersey Transportation Authority and Camden courts.
