NEXTEP SYSTEMS announces patent for improved POS at restaurant kiosks

This patent's goal is to remove unnecessary options from restaurant kiosks' UI to create a more convenient POS.

May 14, 2015

Kiosk developer NEXTEP SYSTEMS has released a new patent for restaurant kiosks to streamline the point-of-sale process, according to a NEXTEP press release. The patent, named "Method and assembly for displaying menu options," is designed to remove unnecessary options from restaurant kiosk UIs.

One common problem in restaurant POS systems, according to the press release, relates to clutter. Essentially, there are too many unrelated options and functions on the screen, which makes it difficult for employees to complete the purchase in a timely manner.

"The menu gives the options that the user needs instead of cluttering the screen with inapplicable options, something which many current POS systems struggle with from a user interface standpoint," NEXTEP President Tommy Woycik said in the release.

The goal of the patent, said Woycik, is to allow users to complete an order in one or two attempts, and create an option that requires little employee training.
