New York State's six electric power companies aim to install more than 50,000 charging plugs for electric vehicles over the next four years, according to a Buffalo News report.
The initiative includes both charging stations that take up to eight hours and fast-charging stations that take only 30 minutes.
Each company received a specific installation target based on the proportion of customers they serve.
Funding under a statewide commercial Make-Ready program covers the infrastructure site costs for the utility and its customers, but not hardware, signage bollards or maintenance. The allocation covers costs to connect the power source to the charging station, but not the physical box or the network equipment.
