SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- NetScreen Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq:NSCN) has announced new features for the NetScreen-5XT that increase security and resiliency for remote sites, including kiosks.
The new Restricted Zone feature of the NetScreen-5XT ScreenOS software enables remote sites to establish two security segments to isolate different internal networks or PCs from one another, according to a company news release. A retailer can establish a restricted zone to connect computers handling point-of-sale transactions, for example, while allowing other ports on the NetScreen-5XT to be used for Internet-enabled kiosks.
"The bottom line for us is that we can simplify our remote access environment while at the same time reducing overall management costs," said Darren Ramsey, senior network specialist at Wellmont Health Systems, according to the news release.
New intelligent fail-over capabilities can configure two "untrusted" interfaces that can be connected to two different ISPs. If the first provider suffers an outage, communications can fail over to the second service provider, according to the release. In July, NetScreen announced a dial back-up feature in which a secure dial-up Internet connection can be established in the event of a service provider failure.
The NetScreen-5XT ScreenOS will be available beginning Nov. 8.
