New Mexico will kick off the expansion of EV charging stations in the next several months by installing 12 fast-charging stations at three sites, including three near the transportation department's district offices, according to a Santa Fe New Mexican report.
State officials will tap the $10 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds the Legislature approved for this purpose.
The state is also expected to receive $38 million in federal money over five years for developing charging sites along "alternative fuel corridors" under the infrastructure package President Biden signed into law late last year. State officials have until Aug. 1 to submit a plan for the funds, after which the state will receive the first round of funding.
