New Hampshire town installs solar powered parking kiosks

June 23, 2017

Laconia, New Hampshire has installed 15 solar-powered kiosks at The Weirs that accept coins and credit cards, but not paper bills, replacing more than 200 meters throughout the area, according to The Laconia Daily Sun.

The system cost about $100,000 and is part of the $4.3 million Lakeside Avenue Improvement Project. The project included installation of streetlights, placement of underground electrical lines, resurfacing of the roadway and sidewalk upgrades.

Parking fees along Lakeside Avenue will be $1 an hour, twice what it cost to use the meters. Kiosks at the Endicott Beach parking lot cost $2 an hour. The prior rate was $10 per day.
