New DigitalTech video player can be programmed without application software

December 26, 2002

MONTEREY, Calif. -- DigitalTech Displays has introduced the POPbox, a video player for displaying digital video movie clips (MPEG1 or MPEG2), still images (JPEG) and MP3 audio.

According to a news release, applications for the POPbox include information kiosks, point-of-purchase advertising or other situations requiring sequential image viewing, such as PowerPoint presentations.

The POPbox can be connected to any TV, CRT, LCD or Plasma display, which supports Component Video. Stereo Audio out (MP3) is also supported on the POPBox.

POPbox can be programmed without any application software; digital video (MPEG1/2) or still images (JPEG) are simply copied on to standard Compact Flash or Smart Media memory cards from any Windows or Mac operating system via a standard flash writer.

The POPbox will immediately play the files once the media is inserted into the POPbox. Media content will play in a continuous loop and is only limited in the size of the memory card used. The POPBox provides a "Folder / File" menu system that enables the user to play only selected files from the folder menu.

"The POPbox is an excellent solution to convert a standard display into an effective presentation system", said Shay Adams, director of Digital Media Products, in the release.

List pricing on the POPbox is $249. Developer kits are also available in both the enclosed version, and board-level only for integration into displays and fixtures.
