ROUND ROCK, Texas, and TRIER, Germany - Eager to tap into the growing touchscreen market, three veteran touchscreen executives on Feb. 20 announced the launch of display and components supplier Touch International Inc.
TouchSystems Corp. chief executive officer Michael Woolstrum, veteran touchscreen technology specialist Gary Barrett, and former MicroTouch Systems managing director Robert Senior are the founders of the privately held company, which has been spun off TouchSystems Corp. Woolstrum will serve as chief executive officer, Barrett chief technology officer, and Senior managing director for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
The company has acquired TouchSystem's component business and is marketing a pair of capacitive touchscreen models, the XGT and RGT, which were debuted by TouchScreen and debuted last November at the Comdex Fall 2001 show in Las Vegas. Touch International has also secured partnerships with flat-panel display manufacturers and touchscreen component assemblers, including device developer eTurboTouch.
The company has set a goal of capturing a double-digit share of the touchscreen market by offering a wide range of low-priced products. Its multi-source partnerships and low overhead will allow Touch International to offer its products at reasonable prices, company officials said.
Touch International will debut its line of products at the CeBIT show in Hamburg, Germany, from March 13-20.
