NetShift powering visitor information kiosks in Oregon

October 20, 2002

COOPER CITY, Fla. -- Tourists along the Oregon Trail can take a break from nature and access traffic news and other visitor information through touchscreen kiosks powered by NetShift.

The technological improvements to Oregon's trails are spearheaded by The Southern Oregon Visitors Association, Oregon Tourism and National Scenic Byways (NSB). Kiosks will be installed at 20 tourist hubs across the state, according to a NetShift news release.

The state's visitor association and the U.S. Forest Service first installed kiosks in 1989 throughout southern Oregon. The project is expanding to include all state welcome centers, Crater Lake National Park, Oregon Caves National Monument, the Oregon Coast and many cities.

NetShift's Builder and Runtime software eliminates the need for on-site technical support in remote locations such as Crater Lake National Park, according to the release. Along with the traffic news, kiosk users can access road cams and local Web sites with tourist information.
