MONTREAL -- Technology services consultant Netplex Retail Group, whose portfolio includes retail kiosk development, has been purchased by information technology services firm CGI Group Inc. (NYSE:GIB).
Netplex and electronic solutions provider Myriap were purchased by CGI for $9.7 million Canadian ($14.9 million). The purchases are part of CGI's strategic philosophy; the company has acquired more than 30 firms in the past 15 years.
Robert Barcum, former president of Netplex, has been named vice president of CGI. Other Netplex executives joining CGI include Larry Davenport as vice president of business development and James Callison as director of consulting services.
CGI officials said Netplex would add a depth of expertise to the retail sector of its business. In the past year, Netplex has developed baby registry and cosmetics kiosks that have been tested by Macy's department stores.
Based in Montreal and with offices on five continents, CGI has more than 13,000 employees and finished fiscal year 2001 with net earnings of $39.7 million on revenue of $1 billion.
