Aldi Nord in the Netherlands will test self-checkout kiosks provided by shopreme, a Graz, Austria-based self-checkout solutions provider, as well as the Aldi customer app, according to a press release.

Customers will check out and pay at the kiosk or by using the customer app to scan products and make payments using a debit card, credit card, Google Pay, Apple Pay or iDEAL, a Netherlands e-commerce payment system.

Customers using the app will receive a digital receipt that they will scan at the shopreme vector terminal which opens the checkout gate.

The shopreme employee app also allows store personnel to conduct remote age verifications.

"To offer our customers a hassle-free experience, we are testing different shopping experiences and evaluating modern checkout systems," Dr. Christian Bock, team lead for self-service checkout and cashless payment at Aldi, said in the release.
