The Sydney Morning Herald: More than 60,000 payphones around the nation might soon be replaced by Internet kiosks and "super-payphones" following the successful completion of two Telstra trials.
A 10-week trial conducted by SMS Management & Technology and Perth-based electronic kiosk company Pie Networks will determine if their services will replace payphones in areas of high pedestrian traffic.
SMS regional director Paul Pettigrew said the firm saw an opportunity to provide Internet services to train commuters, at airports, caravan parks and other locations.
