CHENNAI , India -- Officials in Nepal are investigating information kiosks to help travelers, citing "misinformation" about danger to tourists, and a general misunderstanding of travel options in the region.
According to a news report in The Hindu, Sarvendra Nath Shukla, Nepal minister for culture, tourism and civil aviation, said there is "misinformation about the law and order problems in Nepal."
The Nepal government has established a "Destination Nepal" campaign for the Internet and for use by travel agents. The goal is to instill confidence in the global travelers, and to increase travel to the area, especially from different parts of India.
Said Shukla, "We want information kiosks for proposed information centers in Tirupati and Chennai. They would be established in close association with the Nepal Tourism Board and the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation.
