NEC demonstrates robotic self-checkout assistant

NEC has paired an e-money version of its Twinpos self-checkout system with its PaPeRo research robot asa concept demonstrator for self-checkout interactivity. A video by C-Scout Japan shows the combinationin use, and a report from CNET's Crave technology blog points out that the robot, while entertaining, seems to have no clear, critical role in the transaction process.
