NCR, Ultra Electronics announce partnership for common-use airport platforms

September 22, 2009

NCR Corp. has announced a strategic partnership with Ultra Electronics, a provider of aviation industry solutions. The companies will join forces to help airports meet the growing consumer demand for self-service in the transportation vertical.

According to a news release from NCR, Ultra supplies airports with agent-facing common-use solutions, which allows different airlines to share workspaces and equipment. NCR provides traveler-facing, common-use kiosks for more than 300 airports worldwide. The two companies will combine these offers and create complementary services offerings, all of which will facilitate the International Air Travel Association's common-use self-service, or CUSS initiative.

Theresa Heinz, vice president and general manager for NCR Travel and Gaming, says that with common-use devices, airports can reap the same benefits from self-service that airlines have been seeing for years:

NCR is focused on driving self-service innovation across multiple industries, wherever the consumer interacts. As we see airlines embrace and benefit from this passenger-driven convenience, we believe airports can achieve a similar impact on efficiency and passenger satisfaction. Partnering with Ultra will allow us to deliver these benefits as part of a seamless and proven airport solution.

Just last week, NCR also announced the first deployment of its curbside airline check-in kiosks with US Airways.
