NCR names new chief operating officer

September 9, 2002

DAYTON, Ohio -- Veteran NCR Corp. (NYSE:NCR) executive Mark Hurd has been named chief operating officer of the ATM and electronic kiosk manufacturer. Hurd retains his position as president of the company.

Hurd joined the company in 1980 and worked in a variety of sales and marketing positions before being tapped to operate the company's Teradata IT services division in October of 1999. That next July, Hurd was named chief operating office of the division and last year was named NCR president.

NCR chairman and chief executive officer Lars Nyberg praised Hurd's ability and noted that the Teradata division increased revenue by 40 percent and improved its operating performance by more than $200 million during Hurd's tenure.

"As we continue our drive to accelerate financial performance, I am delighted that all of NCR's businesses will benefit from Mark's leadership and his razor-sharp focus on growth and operational excellence," Nyberg said in a news release.

In other news, NCR announced that Howard Lance, chief operating officer of the company's retail and financial group, is leaving the company. NCR said the decision was by mutual agreement.
