NCR, Georgia university enter software development deal

October 23, 2002

ALBANY, Ga. -- NCR Corp. (NYSE:NCR)is investing $3 million in a partnership with Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) and the University System of Georgia's Intellectual Capital Partnership Program (ICAPP) for software development.

The deal gives GSW an NCR self-service kiosk software platform that is expected to spark the creation of a software development industry in southwest Georgia, according to The Albany Herald. Students will be developing software for touch-screen kiosks found in self-checkout lines at supermarkets and hotel lobbies.

NCR predicts annual revenues in excess of $20 million, jobs for more than 100 software professionals and more than $5 million of annual payroll added to the local economy during the next 10 years, said Boris Peltsberger, a dean at the university.

"You can just imagine what that will do for our town," Peltsberger said. "And they have promised to hire our students, and that has a lot of them excited, too."

The arrangement gives GSW the intellectual property rights to selected software applications originally developed by NCR. The applications will be enhanced with the university's future software development.

The program is scheduled to begin in January with eight students.
