NCR Corp.has signed an order with SPAR, the world's largest food retail chain with more than 126,000 stores in 32 countries, to install NCR self-checkouts in a dozen SPAR INTERSPAR hypermarkets in Slovenia.
The announcement that NCR is going into the central eastern European country comes not long after word that NCR had installed the first retail self-checkout systems in Estonia in northeastern Europe.
The 52 self-checkout station deployment order was signed with the support of Printec, NCR Solutions Partner in Eastern Europe. If successful, NCR SelfServ Checkouts could be deployed in more SPAR stores in Slovenia through the rest of the year.
"Consumers across the world are demanding the speed, convenience and control offered by self-service," said Greg Mann, NCR SelfServ Checkout Solution Specialist for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. "Indeed, research shows that shoppers are more likely to shop with a retailer that provides self-checkout technology. SPAR is a great innovator and is differentiating itself from competitors by offering its customers market-leading self-checkout technology."
