NCR Corp. announced yesterday that it will be placing its BLOCKBUSTER Express DVD-rental kiosks in 35 locations of the Gristedes Inc. grocery chain in New York City.
According to a news release, the DVD kiosks already are in several of the groceries, and the full rollout is expected to be finished by the end of the month.
NCR is playing catch-up with DVD-rental kiosk leader redbox, and NCR appears to be aiming at increasing its footprint in the nation's largest media market.
"In large urban areas like New York, DVD-rental kiosks are a great way to conveniently offer entertainment titles without a significant retail footprint," said Alex Camara, vice president and general manager of NCR Entertainment. "Gristedes has been a fixture in New York for more than 100 years and is a great retail partner for NCR as we expand our presence. Combined with our recent announcement of the largest deployment of DVD rental kiosks in the city at more than 200 Duane Reade locations, New Yorkers will be able to find numerous conveniently located BLOCKBUSTER Express kiosks."
