NBC's Taxi Entertainment Network gets the green light

July 10, 2007

NEW YORK — NBC Universal and Clear Channel Taxi Media have received final approval from the Taxi & Limousine Commission to begin airing the NY10 network in New York City taxicabs. Taxis connected to NY10, Clear Channel's New York Taxi Entertainment Network, will feature exclusive, short-form content from NBCU, including WNBC, NBC News (including network programs, MSNBC and CNBC) and NBC Entertainment.

The NY10 network will air NBC news and entertainment content and advertising on screens developed by Creative Mobile Technologies' FREEdom Solution. The screens will also provide passengers with live digital maps and the ability to pay cab fare by debit or credit card.

"Advertisers want flexibility, engagement, accountability and most of all, results," said Charlie DiToro, chief operating officer for Clear Channel Taxi Media. "NY10 will deliver on all these desires, creating a unique digital out-of-home advertising platform."

A pilot test of the new equipment services began earlier this spring through an initiative by the TLC to provide better communication and service to New York City taxi passengers. The TLC requires that all taxis inspected after October 1, 2007, feature mandated technologies.
