NBA team throws kiosks into marketing strategy

August 8, 2002

PORTLAND, Ore. - Electronic kiosks are part of the Portland Trail Blazers' plans to score points with fans of the National Basketball Association franchise during the 2002-`03 season.

Chris Dill, the team's vice president and chief information officer, said video kiosks will be available at home games during the upcoming season. The kiosks will allow fans to access Portland's Fans First club.

"While you are in the arena, attending an event, you can swipe the card at a video kiosks, and you get points," Dill told the Business Journal of Portland.

The points can be redeemed for rewards, including retail discounts and Trail Blazers pins. Fans that reach certain point levels are eligible for prize drawings, including video rentals, cellular phones, and vacations.
