Narcan machine draws users in Kentucky county

A vending machine offering free Narcan in the lobby of the Madison County Detention Center in Richmond, Kentucky has dispensed more than 50 boxes of the opioid overdose medication in 20 days, according to a spectrumnews1.com report.

The machine was provided by the Kentucky Opioid Response Effort through a partnership with the University of Kentucky's HEALing Communities Study.

The Narcan, a brand name for Nalaxone, is stored on the walls around the jail, inside the booking area and on officers' belts. The drug is offered to people to take with them when they are released.
