Naloxone machines expand nationwide in response to opioid crisis

Vending machines that dispense free Naloxone, a drug that reverses the effects of an opioid overdose, have proliferated nationwide, according to a report in The Guardian.

The machines have expanded as the nation continues to suffer from an epidemic the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates has taken more than 700,000 lives since 1999, caused by drug companies promoting prescription painkillers.

Naloxone is known by its brand name, Narcan.
