Since Moscow Transport introduced its Face Pay biometric fare payment service in October 2021, passengers made around 35 million rides using the Face Pay and more than 200,000 people have registered in the project, according to a press release.

Moscow Transport plans to launch the solution to river transport and surface trains.

According to a survey, 88% of users prefer the Face Pay to other payment methods, said Maksim Liksutov, the deputy mayor of Moscow Transport.

In September 2022, the Face Pay was launched at 85 turnstiles at all the stations of the Moscow Central Circle, the on-surface railway circle line integrated in the Moscow Metro network. Since then, the service has been used more than 130,000 times.

To pay the fare, it is not necessary to tap a card or phone to the turnstile or go to the ticket office. The gate opens after the user looks into the camera.

To use the Face Pay, passengers need to register in the mobile app, take a photo of their face and connect their bank card and the Troika transport card.
