Businesses will not have to pay for electric vehicle charging stations in cities and counties in Missouri that require the businesses to install such devices under a recently passed bill in the state legislature, according to a fourstateshomepage.com report.
The new bill, House Bill 184, mandates cities and counties that require businesses to install EV charging stations to cover the costs of installation, operation and maintenance. It also limits local government to requiring no more than five EV charging spots per parking lot.
The House passed House Bill 184, sponsored by Rep. Jim Murphy, a south St. Louis County Republican, Thursday by a 105-36 vote.
Murphy filed the legislation after St. Louis County and the city required businesses to install charging stations when they redo a parking lot or expand to or develop a new building.
