PORTLAND -- SafePak Corp., manufacturer of bank security products, has introduced PayStation Mini-Vault for the self-storage and apartment industries.
Installed in a public area just outside a manager's office, the SafePak PayStation will accept renter payments by cash, credit card or check and issue an immediate receipt, according to a news release.
The PayStation processes credit-card payments in real time and authenticates all cash before acceptance, the release said. Since checks must be verified by a bank, renters receive a "provisional receipt" for check payments. The PayStation stores the payments until an armored carrier collects them later.
SafePak PayStation will increase business for the armored carriers who service them, the release said. Weekly pickups will be fairly common, but daily pick-ups may be necessary in high-volume or high-risk neighborhoods.
When payments are collected, a detailed manifest is printed for the armored carrier to accompany the collection bag. As additional security, the PayStation sends all payment data via internal modem to a central office computer. Processing staff know what payments have been collected even before they arrive for processing, the release said.
At self-storage facilities, RV parks, and similar facilities, the PayStation can also be programmed to rent out vacant space when the office is closed. A credit card payment is required for the initial deposit. The new PayStation will allow many businesses to operate 24/7 with no manager, dramatically reducing labor costs.
Recently, a large hair salon chain on the East Coast ordered SafePak PayStations to be installed in their salons. The PayStation will accept weekly payments from hair stylists who rent chair space from the company.
