Michigan will replace all old vehicle registration renewal kiosks with self-service stations, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson recently announced, according to an mlive.com report.
After visiting all 131 branch offices, Benson said a third of the kiosks were broken and most were too difficult to use.
The kiosks will offer renewals for automobiles, motorcycles and watercraft, and can print auto and motorcycle tabs. Watercraft tabs will be mailed. The kiosks, many of which will be in grocery stores in addition to Secretary of State branch offices, will accept cash in addition to other payment options, which was not an option with the old kiosks.
Residents can renew vehicles with only the plate number and the last four digits of the VIN number.
There will be a $3.95 fee for each vehicle renewed at a self-service station.
