Miami International Airport has signed a 7-year contract with the airport technology provider SITA that will bring self-service boarding and bag-drop kiosks to the Florida hub, according to smartertravel.com.
Miami will be the first major U.S. airport to test the SITA AirportConnect Open, a platform that provides self-boarding at gates throughout the whole airport.
Maurice Jenkins, the director of information systems and telecommunications at Miami International, said the contract is a significant move for the airport.
"We are making this 7-year commitment to SITA because of its unique combination of advanced technology, round-the-clock service, on-site support and total dedication to the air transport industry," he said.
