Miami Gardens church provides "offering ATM"

July 31, 2012

In Miami Gardens, Fla., congregants don't have to remember to bring their checkbook to church anymore. Nor do they have to make sure to bring cash in the right denominations. They can just swipe their bankcard at the church's ATM.

According to a report by Local 10, the Mount Herman A.M.E. installed the machine two years ago, and while it hasn't necessarily increased church income, it has made it easier for members to tithe. The church now takes in about 50 percent of its offering from the ATM.

There's a fee charged for the service, but for many churchgoers, the convenience is worth the cost.

"It's easy," said Cassandra Wiggins, who told Local 10, that she uses the ATM every week, faithfully giving money every week to the church using the giving kiosk. "I do my budget and I know what I need to give. I just walk in and swipe," Wiggins said.
