Massillon, Ohio considers public information kiosks

November 3, 2016

Massillon, Ohio is considering installing 11 LED kiosks in parts of the city to improve business and share public information, according to The Independent, a local news source.

Marc Albert, chief executive officer of Community Hub, hopes to install 11 LED touchscreen kiosks through parts of downtown and other sections of the city to promote economic development. Like electronic billboards, the units provide paid advertising for local businesses, but also make event, safety, employment and other information available to the public.

Details on local events and happenings, weather warnings and Amber Alerts would be at the fingertips of users of the LED units, which also can list city contacts, community resources, safety contacts and employment opportunities.

Mandy Pond, a member of the Massillon Historic Preservation Commission, told council this week that the group has a problem with LED units or signs being installed downtown.
