While sports betting kiosks are legal in many states, one state, Massachusetts, is studying the impact of allowing retail locations to operate the kiosks as well the diversity of kiosk owners, according to a playma.com report.

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission said it needs more time to conduct both studies.

The commission sent a document to the state's Joint Committee on Economic Development and Emerging Technologies that said additional research will take place after sufficient time has passed to assess the sports betting industry.

The document also said eight states, besides Massachusetts, plus Washington, D.C. allow sports betting kiosks in non-gaming settings like restaurants or bars: Arizona, Connecticut, Delaware, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Montana and Ohio.

Maryland's sports betting law requires sportsbooks to provide plans to increase diversity hiring.
