The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is organizing a division to kickstart the design and installation of EV charging stations, according to a lowellsun report.

The unit will have a senior staffer from the department within the near term to advance the work authorized under this year's $11.3 billion transportation bill, according to William Straus, the state representative who co-chairs the joint committee on transportation.

The bill allocated $225 million for EV charging and alternative fueling programs, which includes $50 million for the Mass EVIP direct current fast charging program and $25 million for RTA charging infrastructure.
