LONDON - Three days after changing its name from Degasoft Ltd. to Kudos Development Group, the kiosk software developer again looked to the future on Oct. 4 when it entered a strategic partnership with communications and IT company Marconi Interactive Systems.
The company will offer its Kudos software system for use in Marconi's Interactive Public Terminal (IPT) system. Currently in the development stage, IPTs will offer pay phone services, along with e-mail and Internet access through standing kiosks and multimedia phones.
Marconi expects to roll out its first IPTs in early 2002, according to Lisa Menning, Kudos marketing communications manager. The first units will be deployed in public spaces where standard pay phones are currently located, she added.
"We looked at many kiosk applications and platforms before selecting Kudos," Roy Jackson, Marconi chief technology officer, said in a news release. "Kudos was the only solution to provide the desired flexibility and functionality, as well as deliver on our requirements for an extensible development platform as opposed to just a configurable client."
Marconi did not disclose when the system would be available on its market. Based in London, the company's telecommunications services are available in more than 100 countries.
