Man accused of hacking casino kiosk

March 19, 2008

The Beaumont (Texas) Enterprise: Exploitation of a glitch in a casino kiosk at Delta Downs Racetrack and Casino could score a Lake Charles, La., man a lengthy prison sentence. Patrick Richard, 38, faces theft and computer fraud charges after Louisiana state troopers arrested him Feb. 28, police said. Investigators charged Richard with theft of $134,881 from the Vinton, La., casino from Nov. 1 through Feb. 8. Casinos typically offer customers a "rewards" card, which offers cash back or other prizes based on points accumulated from the games they play. Cards are inserted into the gaming device when the player begins and typically are redeemed at a kiosk machine. Richard is accused of finding a glitch in the kiosk machine to redeem points he had earned.
