Weak cell signals for parking kiosks challenge Maine town

September 28, 2017

Lawmakers in York, Maine are considering the purchase of 12 additional parking kiosks, but are uncertain about what to do about weak cell signal strength, according to seacoastonline.com.

The signals from the York Beach tower have not been strong enough to connect with the kiosk modem for existing parking kiosks.

The Board of Selectmen discussed whether it should purchase additional parking kiosks for the southern end of Long Beach Avenue – in the context of problems.

Dean Lessard, public works director, told the board 12 additional kiosks would have to be purchased to be installed from Sun ’n Surf south to the end of the beach. The order would need to be placed by the end of February to be delivered in time for summer.

The kiosks would cost $120,000, and the expenditure would need to be approved by voters.
