Library automation firms partner to offer secure self-checkout

November 2, 2010

White Bear Lake, Minn.-based Tech Logic announced it has formed a new partnership with Library Automation Technologies Inc. (LAT), to provide the allCIRC media dispensing product line to its customers.

The demand for new and easily-accessible optical media content (eBooks, movies, music and games) has been steadily growing in libraries throughout the country and abroad, says Tech Logic. The allCIRC Systems are designed to maximize security while simplifying management of and enabling complete self-service of the optical media collections, along with other library material.

AllCIRC provides protection for CDs and DVDs by dispensing the items only to validated patrons that have passed all the circulation rules of the library. Patrons cannot access the media unless allCIRC allows this access to occur. Once proper authentication and validation has occurred, allCIRC then checks out the item to the patron in a transaction similar to that of your circulation desk. AllCIRC also houses a complete self-checkout/check-in station for all other materials in the library, such as books, magazines, VHS tapes, etc.

"By aligning with Tech Logic … we can extend the reach of the allCIRC media dispensing capabilities and ultimately deliver better value to libraries that are struggling with burdens of securing, circulating, restocking and managing growing media collections. New and existing Tech Logic customers will have a single point of contact for all of their automation equipment and needs," said Oleg Boyarsky, president and CEO of LAT.

Tech Logic provides Automated Sorting Technologies (AST), circulation staff support tools and patron self-services for libraries. It provides barcode and RFID check-in and check-out systems, material return drops, AST systems, inter-library distribution systems, and patron reserve systems. Tech Logic designs, manufactures, delivers, installs, maintains, and services all of its systems.
