WCFCourier.com: Not that many years ago the thought of pumping your own gas or getting cash from a machine instead of a bank teller was a foreign concept to many.
Now the Waterloo Public Library is hoping to bring the same self-service attitude to checking out a book.
The lobby of the library has been turned into a construction zone recently as part of a $50,000 renovation plan to remove the large customer service desks and replace them with two self-checkout machines.
While the library will continue to staff a welcome desk and smaller service window, Director Carol French Johnson is hoping most patrons will warm to the electronic librarians.
