LG Electronics USA has launched its Gen 2 Self-Ordering Kiosks, which are designed for users with vision, mobility and hearing disabilities.
Developed in collaboration with accessibility consultant Tech for All, the kiosks were built with inclusion as a core design principle rather than as an add-on, according to a press release.
The news comes as the country marks the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The kiosks are available in 22- and 27-inch screens and feature high-brightness, low-reflectivity displays. They also come in a motorized height-adjustable version to assist wheelchair users.
The kiosks support a variety of assistive technologies, including the JAWS screen reader for audio navigation, tactile keypads and a voice interface.
"Technology should empower everyone," Peter Kim, B2B strategic alliance team leader at LG Electronics USA, said in the release. "By collaborating with Tech for All and working alongside people with disabilities throughout testing and development, accessibility isn't treated as an add-on — it's embedded in the DNA of these kiosks."
The modular design is intended to make them suitable for a wide range of applications, including retail, transit, healthcare and hospitality.
