BROOMFIELD, Colo. - Kiosk designer and manufacturer Kiosk Information Systems (KIS) and technology solutions company AutoMon Corp. are developing a new kiosk line for agencies that oversee individuals on parole, probation, or preparing to go to trial.
KIS announced on Oct. 17 that the two companies have signed a contract to develop the kiosks. The program could be used by community supervision agencies responsible for nearly four million Americans, KIS said in a news release.
The kiosk would automate reporting visits between case workers and the individuals they oversee. Those individuals would be assigned a magnetic-stripe card, which would be used to activate the kiosk. Biometrics, including hand geometry and fingerprint devises, would verify the identity of the person. A printed receipt gives the individual a record of the meeting.
The kiosks would cut down on the number of hours parole and probation officers devote to meetings, allowing them to spend more time on other law-enforcement activities, KIS president Rick Malone said in a news release.
"The deployment of kiosks is an excellent way to free officers from time-consuming, in-office interviews and paperwork and give them more time to focus on critical cases and duties," Malone said.
