KioWare updates kiosk software with HTML keyboard and second monitor tools

KioWare has released an update to its kiosk software, with tools for virtual keyboards and secondary monitors for digital signage.

Kiosk software developer KioWare has released an update to its KioWare for Windows Version 8.1, which waslaunched last month, to provide a variety of tools, according to a press release. KioWare for Windows was rebuilt using the Chromium browser engine and supporting the Chrome Browser. This update is available to existing KioWare for Windows license holders (with current support), the company said.

The update provides a variety of features including:

• Customizable HTML keyboard to create a virtual keyboard or customize prepacked keyboards. The software is also designed to provide virtual keyboard size customization based on percentages in addition to pixels.
• Support for Chrome Flags, a feature of Chrome that lets end-users experiment with features that are still being tested.
• Allows secondary monitor to be used as non-interactive displays or as digital signage.
• A variety of bug fixes and configuration tool simplification.
• Option to disable JavaSript pushState and replaceState functions and make all JavaScript AJAX requests to go through browsing access control list for permission. According to KioWare director of marketing Laura Miller, this is useful for restricting users to approved content, particularly on websites such as YouTube.

With the new option for disabling secondary monitor interaction, KioWare now allows for end-users to use a second monitor exclusively as digital signage, the company said.

This update is available for free for all KioWare for Windows license holders who have current support. KioWare for Windows is designed with a single installer for all models: Lite, Basic and Full.

All KioWare kiosk software products secure devices such as tablets, desktops and smartphones running Android or Windows Operating Systems, the company said. Accordng to KioWare, its kiosk software products lock down end-users' devices into kiosk mode, which secures the overall operating system, home screen and usage of applications. KioWare Kiosk Management tools (KioCloud, KioWare Server and KioWare Server ASP) are designed to allow for remote kiosk management, usage statistics, reporting, monitoring kiosk health, content management and more, the announcement said. The KioWare kiosk products also are available to download for a free trial.
