ORLANDO, Fla. - With almost 100 kiosk industry figures in attendance, industry advocate group Kiosks.org Association outlined its goals and discussed its immediate plans during its inaugural membership meeting at the Orange County Convention Center on March 6.
The meeting, which took place in association with KioskCom's annual trade show and conference, attracted a wide range of industry figures, from software developers to enclosure manufacturers to peripheral makers.
During the hour-long meeting, association chairman Dick Good outlined the association's structure, which includes an advisory board, executive committee, and seven committees focusing on membership, kiosk standards, and advocacy issues. Chairmen have been assigned to five of the seven committees, and a call was made during the meeting for volunteers to chair the government relations and market development committees.
The association will have a booth at the Global Shop retail show in Chicago in mid-April and will showcase 30 member companies at the booth. Kiosks.org Association executive director Craig Keefner said 10 spots were left for the booth.
The future of the organization will involve expanding membership to include companies, retailers, and other groups that deploy kiosks, said Kiosks.org Association president Rick Rommel. Rommel noted that leading retailer Wal-Mart signed up with the association during KioskCom, one of 12 new members. The organization's overall membership is now more than 190.
"We're beginning to just launch this program to get customers more engaged in the process," Rommel said, "Not only will they be able to influence standards and best practices, but they'll have much more exposure to successful projects."
