Kiosks to provide a lifeline for child abuse victims in India

June 1, 2016

Childline, an India-based aid organization, has announced plans to deploy kiosks that victims of child abuse can use to report an incident and seek help. The kiosks will be deployed in train stations in major cities throughout the country according to a report by Quartz.

In India, 135,000 children are trafficked annually, and human trafficking continues to increase across southern Asia, the report said.

Childline was launched in 1996 to allow children to report abuse on payphones. However, with the spread of cell phones, pay phones are quickly becoming obsolete. Childline wants to offer more options to marginalized and homeless children.

The kiosks are four feet tall and allow users to call Childline or submit a report on a child abuse incident. Childline is working to deploy the kiosks within the next six months, according to the report.
