Kiosks to help motorists get quick emission checks are coming in June to Ohio, according to Cleveland.com. The checks will be available at 16 around-the-clock self-serve kiosks. Also coming soon is a remote sensing unit that could scan cars as they drive by without the owner ever getting out, according to the Cleveland.com.
Cars made before 1996 will need to have the old-style tailpipe testing done at an Envirotest stations, but drivers of newer cars may use the kiosks and remote sensing unit.
At the kiosks, motorists enter their vehicle identification number and other information, connect a diagnostic device to the vehicle's data port and then collect the inspection report.
