Kiosks part of Indian insurance company scheme

July 10, 2002

AHMEDABAD, India -- Life Insurance Corp. of India (LIC), seeking to make the premium-payment process easier for its account holders, has deployed a touchscreen kiosk at its regional location in Ahmedabad.

Using a PIN number, account holders can access their insurance information at the kiosk and determine how much to pay in premiums. The kiosk then offers payment instructions. Customers can also send feedback to LIC through e-mail.

LIC regional manager of marketing D. K. Mehrorta told the Indian Expressnewspaper that the kiosk would reduce staff workloads and save customers time.

The kiosk is the first deployed in the city of 3.5 million, India's seventh largest city, according to Indian Express. Based in Mumbai, LIC has 2,048 branch offices throughout India and handled $3 billion in premium account income during fiscal year 2000-2001.
