DVD-rental kiosks gave the video business sector a nearly $1 billion lift in 2009, according to Variety magazine.
In 2009, DVD kiosk revenue grew 94 percent, which more than made up for the 3.2 percent drop in rentals from brick-and-mortar rental stores and the online sector, according to Variety. American consumers spent about $6.5 billion on DVD and Blu-ray rentals last year, an increase of slightly more than 4 percent, according to point-of-sale data collector Rentrak's Home Video Essentials, the Variety article said.
