Kiosks equal success for English businesswoman

Turning to kiosks to help fulfill jobseeker's needs has landed British supermarket executive Clare Chapman on a list of Europe's leading businesswomen. Chapman, group human resources director for Tesco PLC, was named number 19 on Wall Street Journal's list of the 25 most successful businesswomen on the continent.

Under Chapman's watch, Tesco's HR department has launched several technology initiatives in recent years. Among them are a Web site used to fill 20,000 jobs the company expects to add this year, and an interactive kiosk system for job seekers created in partnership with the UK government.

The Journal'slist included businesswomen from the UK, France, Holland, Poland, Finland, Russia, and Spain. Sari Baldauf, president of Finland-based telecommunications conglomerate Nokia Corp.'s networks division, was number one on the list.
