Kiosks check in at Northern Irish hospital

Patients at multiple Northern Irish hospitals can now skip the queues and check in at kiosks.

January 26, 2016

Patients at the Craigavon Hospital in Northern Ireland now have a self-service solution for checking in. The hospital installed check-in kiosks in the ante-natal and outpatient departments, according to areport by LurganMail.

Daisy Hill Hospital and the Ramone Building also have installed these check-in kiosks. They are designed to allow visitors to skip the queue to see a receptionist and sign in directly, according to Anita Carroll, Southern Trust assistant director of Acute Services.

"These kiosks are very straightforward to use — patients are asked to confirm their gender and date of birth, and the system will then ask them to confirm more details prior to booking in," Carroll said. "The kiosks are also equipped with built-in printers, which will print off a ticket with the patient’s call number, appointment time and location, and receptionists are still on hand if you need any further help."

In addition, the kiosk provides a variety of language options such as Polish, Russian, Latvian and Slovak, to accommodate additional guests. "We are hoping to add more devices to both hospitals in the coming months and provide them at our facilities in other areas including Armagh, Dungannon and Banbridge," Carroll said.
