Kiosk pilot aims to boost tourism in UK

May 4, 2003

NORFOLK, England -- A pilot project is set to lead off a nationwide initiative designed to promote tourism in England, according to an article in The Business. EnglandNet, a partnership between regional tourist boards and VisitBritain, a national tourism body, will provide a national online information system for tourism businesses, creating a one-stop-shop for visitors, the article said.

A kiosk at The Forum in Norwich will provide access to online information about the county's tourism outlets. Users can access information on coming attractions, accommodations and eateries in the area. Data collected about kiosk users will be analyzed this fall, and will help with a nationwide deployment expected in March. Vendors were not named in the article.

EnglandNet has been created to provide a connected approach to tourism in England by providing consumers and businesses alike with easy access to a wider variety of tourism products.

The region, comprising Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire, is second in the league of the 10 English regions for tourism dollars, the article said.
