The Los Angeles Independent: West Hollywood city officials are hoping people embrace the latest generation of parking meters - a row of seven meter kiosks spanning an area of the Sunset Strip.
The grey metallic 8-foot, 6-inch meters, attached to solar panels, were unveiled last week as part of an experiment to study reactions to the new technology.
After patrons key in the designated amount of time, they may pay with coins, credit, debit, smart cards or via cell phone before the computer prints out a receipt. The also may register their cell phone numbers with the computer's system and use their cell phones to buy additional time.
If the technology is well-received by business patrons and visitors, the city will issue a request for proposals to expand the pilot program in West Hollywood.
