Kiosk marketer uses 3D to battle redbox

Kiosk marketer Public Media Works is using 3D technology to take on Coinstar's redbox as a DVD dispenser, according to a profile of the firm in the business weekly North Bay Business Journal, servingSonoma, Marin andNapa countiesinCalifornia.
Sausalito ,Calif.-based Public Media Work's kiosks will feature a 3D screen and dispense or download a complete line of electronic media. The 15-employee firm plans to place 25,000 to 30,000 "media filling stations" in high-traffic locations over the next few years.
Public Media Works chairman and CEO Garrett Cecchini believes his firm can compete by broadening the product line and drawing customers with an eye-popping no-glasses 3D screen. Last week, Public Media signed an agreement with 3DMC inVancouver,Canada, to provide high-tech, no-glasses 3D screens for its kiosks, which will allow customers to preview material. The devices also will carry advertising.
